Curriculum Intent for Geography

In this subject, children will have the opportunity to develop a greater understanding and knowledge of the world in which they live and their place within it. We intend to equip all children with skills to develop their geographical enquiry and knowledge through studying places, people and natural and human environments.
They will be supported and challenged to know more and remember more enabling them to reach the end points for each key stage. This will equip them to succeed in education and in adult life, and to make a positive contribution to society for the common good.

Geography Implementation

Our topics have been designed to meet all aspects of the National Curriculum. The key geographical knowledge and skills that children acquire and develop throughout each topic has been carefully planned and structured to ensure progression across and within year groups. Within topics, children are given opportunities to develop geographical knowledge, enquiry skills, the ability to use a range of maps, the skills to collect and analyse data and the ability to communicate information in a variety of ways.
School trips and fieldwork are provided throughout the school to give first hand experiences, which enhance children’s understanding of the world beyond their locality, and which will develop the skills and knowledge taught within the classroom.
