Curriculum Intent for Art & Design
In Art and Design, children will be given the opportunity to develop their creativity, confidence and imagination as they progress through our accessible and exciting curriculum. The children will learn to develop their own ideas and opinions and to articulate and critically discuss work through the exploration of the works of great artists and by also being given them the time and support to develop their own artistic style. They will be supported and challenged to become proficient in a variety of techniques, including drawing, painting and sculpting, ensuring that they reach the end points for each key stage. Children will be fostering an interest and curiosity about art and design whilst beginning to understand how art and design reflects our history and contributes to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.
Art and Design Implementation
Our topics have been designed to meet all aspects of the National Curriculum. The key art knowledge and skills that children acquire and develop throughout each topic have been carefully planned and structured to ensure progression across and within year groups. Our art curriculum is enhanced through the addition of visitors to the school and planned ‘Wow moments’ in each topic to promote children’s curiosity and creativity.
